The Show

"she saw, he saw: Superior" presented the photography of Jane Keeler and Jake Morrison from a trip dedicated to capturing our individual views of the area above Lake Superior. The show was presented at Gallery 200, 200 Crichton Street, Ottawa on the 150 feet of massive old public school hallway walls in November and December 2017.

"Often the hands will solve a mystery that the intellect has struggled with in vain."
- Carl Jung
Sandpictures are used to develop "seeing" skills that include bodily responses, evocation of memories, emotions, prior knowledge, and intuitive sense-making dynamics
- from brochure
Sandplay is a form of active imagination…. Even a single sandtray can have healing power….In the Sandplay process, one can often see order emerging from the chaos
- Bradway and McCoard

I was in my 30s when I slipped into sandplay with a classmate in a Summer Language Bursary Program in Jonquiere, Quebec. Like schoolchildren we were taken on a yellow bus to visit the hydro dam that supplies the power to the Aluminum plant. We had time and began to play with wood chips and stones to create our little home along the driveway, above the sluiceway. Magic ensued.

On beaches, I found all the materials I could want, and sometimes I found the creations of others. In the water, while gazing at the colours of the stones, I found a small goddess had been left for me. I was amazed, and put her back for the next water-searcher.
